Crowns and Bridges 

A crown may be necessary if: 

• A tooth is too damaged for a filling. 

• A tooth is cracked, broken, or severely worn down. 

Crowns preserve the healthy part of the tooth and its root while restoring strength and stability. 

Fillings repair minor decay, but if a tooth is extensively damaged, it may not provide enough support. A crown replaces the entire visible surface of the tooth, ensuring durability and protection. 

Extracting a tooth leaves a gap that can affect your bite and facial structure. A crown maintains the natural spacing of your teeth and helps preserve your smile. 

 Crowns are categorized based on their material: 

• Gold Crowns: Known for their durability and precision fit, gold crowns require minimal tooth preparation and resist chipping. However, their metallic appearance may not be desirable for visible teeth. 

• All-Porcelain or All-Ceramic Crowns: These provide the most natural appearance and are ideal for front teeth. While highly aesthetic, they require more tooth reduction and may not be as durable as other options. 

• Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM) Crowns: Combining strength and aesthetics, PFM crowns feature a metal base with a porcelain exterior. They look natural but may develop a thin dark line near the gumline over time. 

1. If the tooth is severely damaged, a root canal may be performed first.
2. The tooth is reshaped to create space for the crown.
3. Impressions are taken to design a custom-fit crown.
4. A temporary crown is placed while the permanent one is crafted.
5. In a follow-up visit, the final crown is cemented into place.
